Girls Say Negative Self-Images Reinforced by Hollywood's Super-Skinny

Men Don’t Find Ultra-Thin Celebs Attractive;
Girls Say Negative Self-Images Reinforced by Hollywood’s Super-Skinny

There are lots of messages criticizing Hollywood actresses and pop singers for being too thin. Many girls are saying that seeing these women make them feel bad about their own bodies. A number of the boys are pointing out that they don’t find ultra-thin women appealing.

It affects teens to: America’s teenagers are angry at Hollywood for glamorizing ultra-thin bodies, and many girls say they feel too self-conscious about their bodies as a result of watching TV, movies and music videos. The findings are gleaned from more than six months of ongoing discussion and debate. According to author and weight loss expert Chip Clark. Clark said, “Anger and resentment toward the Hollywood ultra-thin runs deep, particularly among teenage girls.”

“Raising children today is not easy”, Teresa F., a mother of three teens said, “especially when you have to deal with unrealistic ultra-thin images portrayed by Hollywood, that your child tries to live up to. It creates an unnecessary emotional burden on children.”

“I was surprised by the level of anger expressed,” Clark said. “Teenagers are far more clued into this issue than most people would imagine. This demonstrates once again the need to teach young girls and boys about how to develop a positive self-image,” said Clark, author of “Weight Loss Mind Games”, a recently published book dealing with weight loss and self-image.

Beware of the Crash Diets

Many think that trimming down on calories can alone shed off their surplus weight. This certainly can be helpful but what people don’t know is that this could be risky because when you decrease your calorie intake below the required levels, the body begins to digest the fats. That’s what you want to do right? The risky part is when that happens your body actually goes into a starvation mode resulting in reduced metabolism which can cause fatigue, illness and a weakness in the immune system.

An extremely low-calorie diet can also harm the body by burning muscle. Those on this type of diet who revert back to their old eating habits end up gaining back most, if not all the weight they have shed off. This the added weight would mostly be stored as fats. And since fats have more volume per mass than muscle, you may end up having the same weight as before but appear larger. While losing weight, you should concentrate on losing excess body fats only.

Try eating smaller meals at more frequent intervals. This way the body will not think that it is being starved and will not store food as fat.

Lose Weight Safely

The common thinking of those who aspire to lose weight naturally think first about reducing the amount of food they eat. This is good depending on the amount you reduce in your food intake. Weight loss should be done in moderation and with the correct mindset to begin with. A balanced variety of foods must always be considered in order to get the crucial nutrients and It is also healthier to eat food which are roasted, steamed or broiled rather than fried. It is also important to include a lot of fiber in your diet.

Build Up Your Lean Muscle Mass

Muscles burn calories both when they work and at rest. Unlike fats muscles burn calories all-day. Knowing this, you can start weight loss by increasing muscle mass. The more muscles, the less fat will remain. Be sure that you begin slowly and think about starting with resistance exercises.

Engaging in Aerobics

Aerobics are not only good for the heart by increasing cardio-vascular conditioning routine but aerobics also help in increasing lean muscle mass while simultaneously decreasing excess body fat. Aside from these benefits, aerobics make the metabolic process more efficient long after you quit. Imagine burning fat efficiently while driving along the freeway or even while watching television.

Taking Diet Pills

Over-the-counter diet pills can affect the amount of weight loss as well as how long one keeps that amount of weight off. However, you must be wary of the side-effects of diet pills. Be sure to faithfully follow the instructions provided in the packaging. It is also prudent to consult the physician rather than experimenting with these drugs to find out which ones really work.

Losing weight does not have to mean sacrifice and torment. It can actually open up to a more full and healthy life where you do not need to feel bad about how you look or not being able to do what you want. Losing weight can be the life changing answer you have been looking for. Begin today and you can gain confidence while you lose pounds.

Chip Clark has been helping people lose weight for over 20 years. One pound at a time.

Our topic today fits in the uncomfortable but necessary catagory. People throughout the world suffer from what is classified as irritable bowel syndrome. It affects young and old alike and is not restricted to gender.

Many thousands of hours are lost in the working world due to absence or when a person comes in to work, from being less productive simply because they don’t feel well. The good news is that irritable bowel syndrome is treatable and doesn’t have to be non productive.

The causes of irritable bowel syndrome are many, but the most common, according to many experts, is a build up of fecal matter and the resulting gas and bacteria that comes from it in the colon. The bacteria grows rapidly and spreads toxins throughout the body. The body reacts in a multitude of ways. This can be manifested in constipation, diarrhea, headache, water retention, or abdominal pain and cramping. No one likes having irritable bowel syndrome. It is painful, uncomfortable and inconvenient.

Controlling or getting rid of irritable bowel syndrome can be done in many cases through cleansing of the colon. The simple fact is a clean colon is a healthy colon. Many people cleanse their colons through changing their eating habits. They turn to healthier foods such as big green leafy vegetables, fruits, salads, and whole grains for breads and pastas. They eat fewer fatty foods and less processed sugar. They don’t go to fast food restaurants as often.

And many people have also discovered the benefits of the natural supplements. If you had basic science in junior high school, the concept should make sense. Getting rid of the bacteria gets rid of the toxins. Having two or three good bowel movements a day should get rid of the fecal matter, which should get rid of the bacteria and gas, and should result in a cleansed colon, fewer toxins and better health. In this way a combination of healthy eating and use of a natural supplement can lead to feeling better and improved health.

Amy Kreidler is not overly fond of running but says, “I can’t find a better exercise to make you sweat. I could walk, but it would take me a lot longer to burn the same calories.” She goes on to say, “You can’t beat that type of exercise. It’s free. It’s fast. You put your shoes on, you warm up, you stretch and you go.”

Along with her husband Paul, the Kreidlers have lost a combined total of 160 pounds since January 2008. The Missouri couple have attributed their weight loss success mainly to running.

The time spent running doesn’t take a huge amount of time either. Amy calculates she only spends 4% of her waking hours on it during the week. “I watch TV more than that. I’m on the computer more than that.”

Their stories were selected by a panel of experts to be featured in the sixth annual USA TODAY weight-loss challenge in the newspaper and at dietchallenge.usatoday.com. This year’s series, which ends today, focuses on how to lose weight on a budget. Readers who trimmed down without breaking the bank have shared their stories.

Today, our daily obligations of work and home keep us tied to our chairs, and if we want exercise, we have to seek it out.

A lot of us live our lives like caged animals. We were designed to be active, too often we put ourselves in a cage. We have bodies equiped to do a great deal of physical labor, but instead we live a lifestyle of migrating from the bed to the breakfast table; to the car seat; to the office chair; to the restaurant booth; to the living room couch and back to the bed.

It was not always this way. Not long ago in the United States, a man who worked on a farm did the equivalent of 15 miles of jogging every day; and his wife did the equivalent of 7 miles of jogging.

Today, our daily obligations of work and home keep us tied to our chairs, and if we want exercise, we have to seek it out.

In fact, health experts insist that obesity problems are caused at least as much by lack of physical activity as by eating too much. Therefore, it is important that people need to move around and keep active.

However, that does not mean that a lap or two around the old high school track will offset a daily dose of donuts. Exercise alone is not the complete answer, experts say. They contend that if you just exercise and do not change your diet, you may be able to prevent additional weight gain and you can reshape your body somewhat.

They say that you must maintain exercise as part of an overall weight loss and fitness program. The more regularly you exercise, the easier it is to maintain your weight. Here is what to do every day to make sure that you get the exercise you need.

1. Get quality Sleep.

Make sure that you get adequate sleep. Good sleep habits are conducive to exercise, experts point out. If you feel worn out during the day, you are less likely to get much physical activity during the day.

In addition, there is evidence that people who are tired tend to eat more, using food as a substance for the rest they need.

2. Walk the walk.

It is probably the easiest exercise program of all. In fact, in some cases it may be all you ever have to do, according to the professional advice of some health experts.

Gradually build up to at least 30 minutes of brisk walking five times a week. Brisk walks themselves have health and psychological benefits that are well worth the while.

3. Walk the treadmill.

When the weather is bad, you might not feel like going outdoors. But if you have a treadmill in the television room, you can catch up on your favorite shows while you are doing your daily good turn for your weight-maintenance plan.

Most of us watch television anyway, and indoor exercise equipment enables anyone to turn a sedentary activity into a healthy walk.

4. Seize the time.

With all other excuses aside, lack of time is certainly a limiting factor in most lifestyles. That is why health experts suggest a basic guideline for incorporating exercise into your schedule.

Get as much exercise as you can that feels good without letting it interfere with your work or family life. If you need to, remind yourself that you are preventing many health problems when you prevent weight gain; and keeping your health is a gift to your family as well as yourself.

The human body is considered fit if its mental and physical health are good, it strictly

follows proper habits, diets, and exercises, and can handle and deal with everyday

stresses.

You should nurture your body with proper nutrition to function well and stay healthy.

Important minerals, vitamins, and foods must be provided to achieve overall fitness.

Keep in mind that good spiritual, mental, and physical health is the real meaning of

fitness.

Body fitness occurs if all the processes of the body associated with mental and physical

state are functioning at its peak levels. However, this is not only a one day task. It

does not necessarily mean going to a gym or simply taking a walk in a park.

There are several factors that must be considered when talking about body fitness.

Daily necessities as well as body conditioning are needed.

Physical exercises absolutely help the body to become strong. All parts of your body

need to function as a whole. Therefore, the absence of one factor can fail your entire

fitness needs. Take for instance; you only focus on maintaining your weight and

meeting cardiovascular needs. You forgot that your body is not only composed of your

heart. All your other organs should also be functioning well. Body fitness is not only

achieving a beautiful figure but replenishing what was depleted from the body due to

daily activities. Physical exercises should benefit your entire body.

Available resources must be used wisely. Educating one’s self about bodily needs for

maintaining a fit body is also important. If you have an unhealthy body, you need to dig

deeply for its causes. In fact, becoming fit again is not easy as you could observe that

what makes your body unfit is several years of body abuse from bad habits, poor

nutrition, and lack of physical exercises.

You should also know the difference between wellness and fitness since some have

misconception about it. Being well and being fit is entirely different and have exclusive

conditions, but both are essential in maintaining vitality and health. A fitness counselor

or licensed fitness instructor at a fitness club or local gym can test your fitness levels,

while wellness is determined by optimum functioning of your immune systems.

The body maintains its balance if both fitness and wellness are in its maximum levels.

Generally, nutritional intake affects the ability of the mind, body, and staying well. If

this is combined with healthy eating, clean living, and regular exercise, then it will

result to total wellness and fitness.

Giving proper attention on the physical needs of every body parts can also result to

total body fitness. Never forget that these parts are working in unison with one another.

In order for the limbs to function at its peak levels, two hands, two eyes, two feet, and

other parts are important.

Your physical body works better compared to any invented machine. It’s more powerful

and complex, thus it can take more abuse yet continuously operate without meeting its

everyday requirements for a few days. But if you put first body fitness in your life, then

your body can do its work tremendously well.
