Beware of the Crash Diets

Many think that trimming down on calories can alone shed off their surplus weight. This certainly can be helpful but what people don’t know is that this could be risky because when you decrease your calorie intake below the required levels, the body begins to digest the fats. That’s what you want to do right? The risky part is when that happens your body actually goes into a starvation mode resulting in reduced metabolism which can cause fatigue, illness and a weakness in the immune system.

An extremely low-calorie diet can also harm the body by burning muscle. Those on this type of diet who revert back to their old eating habits end up gaining back most, if not all the weight they have shed off. This the added weight would mostly be stored as fats. And since fats have more volume per mass than muscle, you may end up having the same weight as before but appear larger. While losing weight, you should concentrate on losing excess body fats only.

Try eating smaller meals at more frequent intervals. This way the body will not think that it is being starved and will not store food as fat.

Lose Weight Safely

The common thinking of those who aspire to lose weight naturally think first about reducing the amount of food they eat. This is good depending on the amount you reduce in your food intake. Weight loss should be done in moderation and with the correct mindset to begin with. A balanced variety of foods must always be considered in order to get the crucial nutrients and It is also healthier to eat food which are roasted, steamed or broiled rather than fried. It is also important to include a lot of fiber in your diet.

Build Up Your Lean Muscle Mass

Muscles burn calories both when they work and at rest. Unlike fats muscles burn calories all-day. Knowing this, you can start weight loss by increasing muscle mass. The more muscles, the less fat will remain. Be sure that you begin slowly and think about starting with resistance exercises.

Engaging in Aerobics

Aerobics are not only good for the heart by increasing cardio-vascular conditioning routine but aerobics also help in increasing lean muscle mass while simultaneously decreasing excess body fat. Aside from these benefits, aerobics make the metabolic process more efficient long after you quit. Imagine burning fat efficiently while driving along the freeway or even while watching television.

Taking Diet Pills

Over-the-counter diet pills can affect the amount of weight loss as well as how long one keeps that amount of weight off. However, you must be wary of the side-effects of diet pills. Be sure to faithfully follow the instructions provided in the packaging. It is also prudent to consult the physician rather than experimenting with these drugs to find out which ones really work.

Losing weight does not have to mean sacrifice and torment. It can actually open up to a more full and healthy life where you do not need to feel bad about how you look or not being able to do what you want. Losing weight can be the life changing answer you have been looking for. Begin today and you can gain confidence while you lose pounds.

Chip Clark has been helping people lose weight for over 20 years. One pound at a time.

Teenage and childhood obesity rates today are higher than at any other point in history. We have become a fast food, low activity society. We feel that it is easier to allow our children to remain inside our homes rather than insist that they engage in outdoor activities.

Address the problem by getting our children more involved, more active, and better educated about making the proper choices about diet, nutrition, fitness, and overall health. The problem for most parents is getting our teens off the computer, phone, or away from the television long enough to get active. Here are some simple tips that may activate your overweight teen.

The majority of us learn by example and whether we care to admit it or not. Teens typically enjoy doing things as part of the family. A softball game, soccer game, and even volleyball can be a great way for the family to do something together and the games and practices are opportunities for your teen to be active. Be sure to make it fun and not a chore. You might try bike riding or go hiking as a family. Learn a new sport together. It’s amazing how much fun you can have in doing so.

Encourage your teen to join a recreational sports team either at school or in the community. In most communities there are many sports programs available in which teens can join. Most importantly, support and encourage them in any physical activity. Even if the sport they take up doesn’t involve a lot of physical activity it is quite likely more active than sitting in front of the television or computer screen.

Make it easy for your teen to eat healthier foods. Limit their exposure to calorie-loaded foods, fruit juices, and energy drinks, and encourage them to drink plenty of water each day. Introduce as many vegetables as possible to the diet of your teens and get rid of the prepackaged convenience goodies that teens are notorious for depleting in one sitting. Also having them to actively participate in the preparation and clean up for meals. This will help them pay more attention to the things they put into their mouths as well as the messes they make in the process.

To keep your body healthy you need the proper amount of protein.

No related posts.

To keep your body in shape and healthy you must provide it with the right combination of carbohydrates, proteins, minerals, and vitamins. Out of these components protein plays a different and very essential role to keep your body strong and healthy.

The primary function of protein in your diet is to regenerate tissue therefore enhancing the growth of cells. The production of hormones and other serums that are required by the body is another major function preformed by proteins.

The amount of protein intake as suggested by physicians and by Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for individuals with normal physical needs is between 15-20% of your daily intake. If your consumption of proteins do not fall within that range it can adversely affect normal body functions. A normal diet should not exceed those recommendations as suggested by the latest research.

Protein requirements can differ between individuals as well as caloric intake. This depends on many factors such as weight, sex, age and the physical condition of the body. The protein requirement of a body-builder or athlete is different from that of a sedentary person. Protein contributes four calories for each gram consumed.

The body intakes essential amino acids that is required to replenish the complete protein requirement of the body. Many of the amino acids, which the body needs, are only available to us from food that we eat comprising of these amino acids. We do not naturally produce certain amino acids.

The proteins that are derived from plants are as nutritious as animal proteins. This is good news for vegetarians however if you are on a vegetarian diet you are advised to take some dairy foods along with vegetables to keep the protein level in body at par.

Dairy foods have high quality of proteins in them. Milk alone has all the 8 different amino acids that the body requires for building muscles, hardening of bones and repairing cells. Eggs also provide complete protein, especially the egg white.

Exactly what are negative calorie foods? Do they really exist?

To answer the question, first let us consider what this really means.To begin with there
is no such thing as a negative calorie. A calorie is a measurement of a unit of heat and
cannot be negative. The term negative calorie food simply means a food whose caloric
level is less than the energy necessary to eat and digest it.

When we drink a glass of cold water, which has no calories at all, the body must expend
energy to process and bring it up to blood temperature. Each time we drink a glass of
cold water we burn a small amount of calories.

Let’s take foods for example, celery does not give us the amount of calories necessary
to cover the energy it takes to digest it plus the energy we expend just to keep alive and
breathing. Therefore it is considered a negative calorie food.

Obviously if a person were to live on a negative calorie diet they would suffer from
severe nutritional deficiencies and starvation would occur. Their muscle mass would
eventually waste away.

The best way to apply a negative calorie diet is to counteract eating an over rich diet or
as a form of fasting or detoxification. It can be a great way to clean out your system
assuming that you are otherwise healthy. In any case it is best to seek medical advice
first.

When using negative calorie foods for detoxification please consider the following:

1. Do not eat large quantities of the same food. If consumed to excess some foods will
cause damage to your system. Acidic foods such a lemons and grapefruit can damage
the lining of your stomach. Other foods may cause diarrhea and can also put an
excessive burden on the liver. Mix and match your negative calorie foods in small
quantities.

2. Obviously overeating any food will leave you bloated and feeling sick. Just because
the food is considered negative calorie is no reason to stuff yourself. Plan smaller
portions and eat more often.

3. If you eat slowly and chew you food thoroughly you will feel more satisfied and use
more calories. Some foods will be more effective when consumed raw rather than
cooking. Try chopping or grating foods like carrots and beats.

4. When fasting or during detoxification you may develop symptoms such as
headaches, tiredness and irritability. If the symptoms persist or become severe, cease
the program and see a physician.

5. Finally when your fasting or detoxification is over don’t binge on normal foods, return
slowly.

Now let us look a list of negative calorie foods.

* Apples  * Asparagus    * Beets    * Blueberries    * Broccoli    * Cantaloupes
* Carrot    * Cauliflower    * Celery stalk    * Celery root    * Cranberries
* Cucumbers    * Eggplant    * Endives    * Garden cress    * Garlic
* Grapefruit    * Green beans    * Green cabbage    * Lamb’s lettuce    * Lemons
* Lettuce    * Onions    * Papayas    * Pineapples    * Prunes    * Radishes
* Raspberries    * Spinach    * Strawberries    * Tangerines    * Tomatoes
* Turnips    * Zucchini

Till next time,

Chip
