Struggling With Your Weight Loss – Try Running

Amy Kreidler is not overly fond of running but says, “I can’t find a better exercise to make you sweat. I could walk, but it would take me a lot longer to burn the same calories.” She goes on to say, “You can’t beat that type of exercise. It’s free. It’s fast. You put your shoes on, you warm up, you stretch and you go.”

Along with her husband Paul, the Kreidlers have lost a combined total of 160 pounds since January 2008. The Missouri couple have attributed their weight loss success mainly to running.

The time spent running doesn’t take a huge amount of time either. Amy calculates she only spends 4% of her waking hours on it during the week. “I watch TV more than that. I’m on the computer more than that.”

Their stories were selected by a panel of experts to be featured in the sixth annual USA TODAY weight-loss challenge in the newspaper and at dietchallenge.usatoday.com. This year’s series, which ends today, focuses on how to lose weight on a budget. Readers who trimmed down without breaking the bank have shared their stories.
